What part of No don't you understand???

This morning, as I was fighting with my internet AGAIN, (BTW I think my modem is dying) Jade came up to ask me, "Can I eat my cereal in the living room?" I told her no in a tone that indicated that she had just asked the most absurd question ever, and she began to try to convince me why she should be allowed to eat her cereal in the living room. "But it doesn't have milk on it.", "But you let Caibo eat popcorn in the living room".......
You get the idea. I looked at her and said, "No does not mean negotiate."
Suddenly I realized that the part of no my children doesn't understand isn't the N or the O. I have just been spelling negotiate wrong. It should really be "NOgotiate", and that's why my children don't understand the word no.
